Filling a masonry with straw bales in the field of New Guinea – Summer 2012

New Guinea organised a physical building workshop to demonstrate alternative techniques for transforming an existing concrete frame into an ecological structure. Through the process, the participants had the opportunity to become familiar with the materials and techniques of natural building. The workshop was divided into four modules and completed in four three-day sessions during July. Through a creative process and experimentation in practice, part of the concrete frame, which is a typical example of energy-intensive construction methods, was covered with natural materials of local origin, such as straw bales, clay and sand, and transformed into a useful space for activities and tool storage.
