Food production systems

On the New Guinea farm, different food production systems have been designed and installed based on the principles and practices of agro-ecology and permaculture. These are two vegetable gardens, a Mediterranean forest garden and a mixed orchard, which produce food for the people involved in their cultivation (stable garden teams and volunteers) and feed the New Guinea kitchen during the seminars. These systems are the venue for the practical workshops organised as part of the relevant seminars, while they also host open information events and guided tours. They also operate experimentally, for the study and development of different cultivation techniques and their adaptation to specific climatic conditions. Finally, they are a living seed bank that provides material for the creation of seedlings and cuttings for sharing at open events on food self management.
